Dance your way through life

As you may know by now, I’m a big dancer or clubber (whichever term you prefer). I think when I say I ‘dance’ people assume it’s a bit of salsa or maybe ballroom, so I prefer clubber (even though I’m ancient to be clubbing of course :). Although I like those more traditional forms of dance, I am always drawn to the type of music that ‘lifts me up’. The energy of dance music takes me to another place and I love it plus I use it like a mega workout!

I was actually asking myself the other day why do I like it so much? And I think I have the answer. For most of my life, I have lived in a fearful state, worrying about everything and focusing on what might go wrong, as opposed to what might go right. Not only that, I have felt constantly ‘on hold’ fearful for the future – a bit like we all are at the moment whilst Brexit gets sorted! LOL.

So, with that said, this has affected my life from how I have approached things, to my personal health, which shows in my creaking knees and disgruntled hips, all of which mean I struggle to do both the exercise I do and the dancing. But don’t worry I’m going to carry on going!

But here’s the thing. I love dancing so much, that despite the pain, I can skip around the dance floor for hours on end. Because it’s the ONLY time that I feel 100% free. No fears, no worries and I don’t even care what people think of me and kinda show off. Because I let myself ‘go’ and therefore, I have to be prepared to either garner praise or ridicule (trust me, I’ve had both). But I don’t care. I just know that, right at the moment, I’m dancing like no-one is watching.
