Visualize the Life of your dreams (and declutter your life in the process)!
We hear a lot now about Visualisation and of course, making a vision board is popular now. But perhaps, like me, the thought of getting creative takes you back to your school days of Copydex in one hand, tongue firmly placed outside of the mouth, as you cut and paste pictures you’ve cut out of a magazine? I always seemed to get more glue on my sleeve than anywhere else.
As it so happens, I’m a big fan of visualisation and I believe it works. I’ve ‘created’ many visions in my life which have come true.
At the age of 12, I sat in front of the Daily Mail (Secretarial and PA jobs in London) and circled the jobs I liked the sound of. You see, I was visualising going to London to work and becoming a PA. I moved to London in 1989 at the age of 24 and lived there almost until 2014 when I moved to Dorset. I worked my way up to become the PA to five Board of Directors of HHB, a professional audio company within the music and TV industry and a stellar company indeed!
At the age of 21, I went to California on holiday. I used to daydream about living there and what it would be like. I loved Los Angeles and the thought of living in such a glamorous place became a ‘fantasy’. I truly saw myself living there. I moved to Venice, California, in 1999 and lived there until 2002 with my husband David.
You see? This stuff is powerful. Your thoughts are powerful – very powerful! So make sure your thoughts are really positive and you create the future of your dreams. If the idea of pasting bits of paper is too onerous for you (for me, I liked it but I find that I hardly ever pick up the book). However, I’ve kept it simple. I’ve typed a list of everything I want to have in my life
It starts with the house I want, even the flowers in the garden, the style of the garden, whether it has a patio. Then the dog I want, the size and colour and what I will call him or her. I have envisaged how I want to look in six months time, what size I am, how my hair looks, what I’m wearing. I envisage my business being successful and how I am helping so many women and men get their lives back on track, particularly after a break-up. I see myself doing a ‘Ted Talk’ and inspiring others through my words and my life experience, which I am happy to share with others. I imagine how big my smile will be when I have achieved what I’ve wanted to achieve.
So what do you want in your life? Describe everything in detail. Maybe the man of your dreams? What does he look like? How does he smell? How does he treat you? What’s his music taste?
Perhaps you dream of taking off in a camper van. Okay, what does the van look like? How much will it cost you? Can you see yourself picking up the keys and starting the engine? So it’s your first trip. Where are you going?
Okay, that’s a lot to take in!
Start with what you want to achieve in the next six months. Goals are important – they keep us moving forward. If we don’t move forward, we go backwards.
Keep on striving to be the best version of you.
Declutter your life, and create the life of your dreams!
