As you may know, from my previous blogs, I’m a big fan of personal development. But what does it actually mean? Here’s a description; courtesy of Wikipedia.
Personal development covers activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations.
Okay, I’m being authentic now. You see, it’s easy to hide behind a painted-on smile and everyone thinking you’re the most positive person on the planet, but in reality, I was deeply sad.
My first foray into “Who on earth am I?” started in 2012 when I read the book ‘The Secret’ and ‘The Power’ by Rhonda Byrne which are all about love. Frankly, it started to make me think about what constitutes true happiness. Maybe it’s all about owning a lot of things, having a career or status which you garnered or even better how you truly felt inside? As for myself, I knew it was all about how I felt inside and it’s always been like that.
Any sense of achievement I had garnered from running my own business in London had been dismissed the minute I moved from London to Dorset. It was a scary but also empowering experience. Who on earth did I think I was? I felt lost and broken. In truth, I wasn’t sure any more, so I thought I’d better get to know who I am, and that pretty darn quick. That’s when I attended a Tony Robbins forum in 2015, and in 2018 and this year I finished coaching sessions at The Landmark Forum in London. I’ve worked hard on myself and it’s not been pretty or easy (I cried myself a river) but I can see how, most of my life, I ‘played’ the victim rather than victor. If you keep quiet, you’re just keeping quiet to the outside world, however, if your thoughts don’t match the exterior, you’re in for a lot of trouble down the line.
In 2019 I find myself, at long last, HAPPY. Boy I can’t tell you how great that feels! 🙂
I understand myself which again helps me to better understand and accept others.
So when do you start your personal development journey? I can highly recommend it and if you’d like to have a chat, just drop me a line.
