That is so exciting, because “Guess what?”, I love walking! In the most trying and even calmest times, walking really is one of the best exercises out there. It is free, burns off calories, is sociable – you will be surprised how many people chat to you – and you can use it to talk kindly to yourself and figure out what’s going on in your life.
I can honestly say that walking became so important to me that I had a code I used. If I got up on a Sunday and felt a bit low, I would post on my Facebook page that I was off on a walk and could be ‘some time’. It meant that it would be a good fifteen-mile walk minimum. I would walk very fast, stop for coffees along the way, and play house music loudly to myself. Whilst on these ‘missions’ I’d work through everything in my head and get some great exercise too.
So here are some great health statistics about walking and why it’s so good for you;
- Increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness.
- Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke.
- Improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes.
- Stronger bones and improved balance.
So if that doesn’t get you going, I don’t know what will!
Give me a shout if you fancy a walk and talk. Later this year, I intend to set up a regular walking group again so maybe we can get that going?! Contact me if you’re interested.
