I have often heard many older people say that there are many benefits to getting older and one of those is that you no longer care what others think of you.
One of my biggest learnings from the Landmark forum, was that you should never care what others think of you, as what others think of you is truly not your business!
How very true but how many of us truly stick to that belief? In truth, very few. So many of us (me included) have worn a ‘mask’ to fit into society often to the detriment of our own ability to speak our truth.
Of course, in order to have some sort of cohesive society, there needs to be politeness and an element of conformity, but not to the detriment of who you want to be.
One of the most incredible things about living in the 21st Century is how more and more people are coming into their own and totally being themselves, oblivious of whether people like them or not. They are speaking their truth, oblivious of the slings and arrows flying their way.
I truly think that many of us worry so much about what others think of us, that we often lose sight of our own thoughts and feelings and go along with the “masses’ for fear of offence. In truth, everyone should be able to speak their truth, as they see it, without fear of any ridicule or vitriol.
We all have an individual view on every aspect of the world we live in, and it is from that perspective that we can work as a collective and draw from each other’s differences, not allow them to split us apart.
United we are incredible, divided not so.
