Help Me Declutter

“Help me declutter” has probably been shouted out in despair many a time.  But if you shouted out those words, would you expect to receive a reply?

The truth is, there are people out there now, who are Professional Declutterers and organisers and can help you declutter.

The thing is these lovelies make light work of what can seem to be an onerous task.

Help me declutter is no longer a cry out into the wind, in fact, help me declutter need never be uttered again once you find the person you want to work with.

We all have clutter, whoever we are, but for some of us, especially those who are very busy, the clutter can build and build and before you know it, your home feels no longer a place of refuge but, instead, a place that stresses you out.  It is totally understandable that you need outside help and resort to putting “Help me declutter’ into the search bar on your computer.

Why we have clutter is an individual matter. For some of us, it is a case of too much stuff, for others, it is based around trauma and that trauma, stops you letting go of things that no longer serve you. The best way to start decluttering, is to understand why you have clutter, in other words, what is the root cause.

As for the practical of how you declutter, all Declutterers work on a similar methodology.  In some ways, once you have decided to let go, the hard work is done, now it’s the practical and that’s where those decluttering ladies come into their own.

Firstly, our job is to keep you calm and find solutions. I normally create a plan with my client that works for us both and which we can both agree to. Teamwork is the name of the game.

Decluttering can be tricky but with a willing accomplice and a positive attitude mountains can be moved, even in a relatively short space of time.

There is a structured way of working and the first rule is to decide on which room you want decluttered first off and then categorise everything within that room.

That way you are left with smaller piles.

You will need to have the right equipment to hand and that includes bin bags, labels, a thick marker pen, bags for charity and a container for the recycling.

Decisions will need to be made on whether to a) keep the item, b) donate the item, c) sell the item, d) recycle/put into the trash. This is where gentle persuasion and guidance is sorely needed and that is where a professional can come into their own. I am always empathetic towards my clients as I know exactly how it feels to have to let go of stuff that we have had for some time.

Many of my clients worry about whether the item will just go into landfill or can it be re-used by someone. The good news is that it can be recycled in about 99% of cases and I always make a point of recycling everything I am given, either by dropping off at the charity shop or directly to people who are in need.

So, call out ‘help me declutter’! Your home is your castle, and it deserves to be loved and cared for like everything else in your life. By decluttering your home, you are adding value to your home but also saying to yourself, that you deserve to have the best home you can have. That means a home that is decluttered, organised, tidy and a joy to come home to.

With Love
